Announcing The Equal Futures Event

Join us in London, UK on July 14, 2023

What would an equal future look like? We're running a one day event in London on July 14 to discuss, reimagine, plan, and design it. Join us?

"Wouldn't it be great to get everyone working in social justice, racial justice, anti-racism, DEI etc. in the same room, to talk about what an equal world might actually look like?"

This is something we've said to far too many people, far too many times...and so at Mission Equality, we're making it happen!

Instead of spinning our wheels and focusing on problems, we believe it’s time to start thinking about and designing the future we want - an alternative system that we’re calling Equalism. The Equal Futures event is about the conversations that must happen if we’re actually to move forward towards an equal world that works for everyone.

Equal Futures is a 1-day event, split into 2 sessions, with different attendees invited to each session...

MORNING SESSION (10am-1pm): Designing Equal Futures

The morning session is for anyone who works in the fields of social justice, DEI, anti-racism and more - for practitioners, professionals and experts...you are free to self identify as any of these and we will assume a level of knowledge to ensure the conversations are as progressive as they need to be.

In this session, we will be facilitating conversations that invite and encourage a mindset shift from the colonialist, capitalist thinking (you'd be surprised how colonised most of us still are!), to a mindset rooted in equality.

This will enable progressive, fresh thinking around the design of an equal world to create clearer vision of the goal; to be clear...we may end up with many, many different designs...GREAT! There is no single 'right' answer but let's at least give ourselves some options - and the more, the better!

AFTERNOON SESSION (2pm-5pm): Experiencing & Advocating For Equal Futures

The afternoon session is for those with lived experience of being a member of any deliberately disadvantaged group. This will progress the conversations from the earlier session by involving and hearing from those most affected and impacted by the inequities and inequalities of the world we live in today.

We are also inviting allies and advocates to this session, who would like to hear from the most progressive voices in the room and support the progress towards an equal future for everyone.

How The Event Will Work...

This isn't your typical event with speakers/presenters and only a few folks who have access to the mic. Everyone will have their own mic...

We have a few core goals for the event:

  • Agree on the need for a shared vision of Equalism - even if that looks different for everyone (as equality should do).

  • Facilitate interesting connections and forge stronger ties within the field.

  • Create blueprints which lead to action and implementing elements of an equal world, from where we are now.

Our intention is to gather folks in the same room, facilitate people to make the paradigm shift from colonised mindsets to decolonised thinking (which will start before the event begins through content and prompts we'll share with attendees) and then get everyone excited about how to design equal futures for everyone.

See you there!
